  • SHIPPING YOUR PRODUCT

Believe it or not, shipping costs are the number one reason why most people abandon shopping carts.

    It's easy to see why.

Many merchants use a flat rate shipping method which is calculated to ensure that they never, ever, lose money on shipping.

Let's say you've decided to use a flat rate for shipping, based on weight. You don't know if you'll be shipping Item X across town, or to Nome, Alaska. Just to be safe, you base your shipping rate on the Nome, Alaska rate-regardless of where your purchaser is located.

Needless to say, this is a poor strategy. You'll lose tons of sales, and there's no need.

Most shopping carts are able to query the major shipping services for exact shipping fees on any trasaction.

You simply configure your cart to use the shipper of choice, and let the cart do all of the work.

In the US there are three major shippers. The US Postal Service, United Parcel Service, and Fedex.

Which you choose will depend largely upon the type of product you ship.
